The Girl In The Painting A Psychological Horror eBook Matt Shaw Sam West Reviews

  • I love dark romances, but this is a c*cktease of a dark romance. SPOILER

In both, the couples are wickedly perfect for each other. And in both, one or both parties die. A lot of buildup with a totally unsatisfying climax. Very disappointed, especially with the last one. True horror would be the couple uniting in the darkness and tormenting the world and each other for eternity.
  • Horror is usually my preferred genre to read, but I have also been a fan of dark romance for at least twenty years. When I saw two of my favorite horror authors had written another story together (I have previously read the other story included “Two Minds” and my review here does not cover this story)... I knew I had to read it. Saying too much about this story is hard, as I feel like anything I say is a spoiler of some type. What I can say is that The Girl in the Painting is very well written from both male and female points of view and these author’s writing styles compliment each other nicely. I also think that the ending... while unexpected... was perfect and I wouldn’t change a thing. If you have an afternoon free and want a dark romance that is not cookie cutter, I highly recommend reading The Girl in the Painting. I don’t like to write many reviews, as I’m not great at writing them. However since there is only one other review up for this book and it is a very negative one I’m guessing that many people are passing this story over quickly without giving it a try. So I’m hoping that this review will give another perspective on this story. I think that overall this was a great read and I was not disappointed... give The Girl in the Painting a chance!

My review will continue below, but contains potential spoilers.

    *Potential Spoiler Alert*
Vampires are honestly overdone and vampire romance... dark or otherwise has been done almost to death at this point. It seems like in all of them there is some type of “happy ending”. In my opinion not everything should have a happy ending. Romance and tragedy compliment each other beautifully as love itself is a double edged sword. In fact one of the things I most enjoyed about this story is that there was not a happy ending as such. I also thought the strength of the female character Hannah was refreshing and I like the fact that she did not give in to the “romantic notion” of becoming a vampire. Her strength was fantastic and I love that she did what she had to, even though she knew she would never be the same.
